Frequently Asked Questions
Applicants
Why would someone pay to see my résumé?
Don't sell yourself short! Employers will often pay job boards for the privilege of seeing thousands of résumés, many of which don't even relate to their industry at all. They pay to see yours for a few reasons: A) before they pay even a shiny penny, employers can view your résumé to see if you have the experience necessary for their industry; B) we have a varied and diverse group of employers searching our applicants, many of whom are in your industry, and C) because you're completely awesome!
How do I log in if I forget my username/password?
Your username will always be the e-mail you used to sign up for your account. If you've forgotten your password, you can retrieve it by going to our Forgot Password page.
How do I change my account e-mail address and/or reset my account password?
If you've changed your e-mail address and no longer have access to the e-mail account you used to sign up with Applicant Tree, or if you'd just like to change the e-mail address we have on file, please Contact Us, and we will assist you.
If you need to change your password, click on the Edit Billing/Password tab.
Can I have multiple accounts using the same e-mail address?
No, you may only have one account. For example, if you and your spouse share the same e-mail address and both would like to use the site, you will need to have a separate e-mail address to sign up for the second account.
Can I choose not to receive Applicant Tree-related e-mail?
In order for us to better manage your account - and help get you hired - we need to be able to reach you. That said, you can choose not to receive our e-mails by clicking the "opt out" option at the bottom of our messages to you. Of course, if you prefer, you can always choose to receive text messages instead.
If I'm no longer looking for a job, should I cancel my account?
Absolutely not! Even if you're perfectly happy in your current position, keep yourself on the market just in case something better comes along. What if someone is willing to pay you 5 or 10 percent more than you're making now to entice you away? It may be an opportunity too good to pass up with a great company!
Please see our Privacy Policy for additional details about deactivating an account.
How can I find jobs on Applicant Tree?
Use our "Search Jobs" tab. Fill in the fields with the appropriate info, choose your categories and click "search" at the bottom of the page.
How can I improve my job search results?
Try using different combinations of terms. Instead of Administrative Assistant, try using Administration Clerk. Instead of Marketing and Sales, try Marketing Specialist.
You can always broaden or narrow your search. Fill in fewer fields to get more results; fill in more to get more targeted results.
What happens when I apply online to a job posting?
Applying directly to a job ad on Applicant Tree will put you in direct contact with an employer. Your contact information will not be revealed unless the employer decides to purchase it to get in touch with you. Applying directly also changes the fees you'll receive. Employers pay a discounted rate because the great ad they've placed attracted your attention. They pay for half of your normal rate, and you'll get half of that. So if your résumé rate is $40, the employer pays $20 and you'll receive $10.
How do I refer a friend to Applicant Tree?
Click the "Refer a Friend" tab and fill out the required information. If your friend joins, and an employer would like to contact him or her, you will be rewarded with $5. You'll get this "finder's fee" every time your friend's résumé contact info is purchased.
Does the $5 referral fee come out of my friend's pocket or Applicant Tree's?
The reason that reward exists is because we are always really impressed by people who think to share stories about positive customer service experiences, instead of only yelling from the high hills when something terrible has happened.
Our company exists to reward job seekers for putting their information on our Web site. We don't want to take money away that's rightfully yours! That fee will come out of our profits.
How and when will I receive payment?
When you've accumulated $25, either from your résumé being purchased or from the referral fees, we'll send you the money!
If you would like to receive your payments by check, they will be sent out on the 15th of each month. PayPal will pay you on the 10th of each month. You will be responsible for all fees associated with PayPal transfers in accordance with PayPal's terms and conditions.
You can see how much you've earned by clicking "My Earnings" while logged into your account.
How do I know this job listing/employer is legitimate?
Like you, employers using our site have to agree to our Terms of Use, which includes entire sections on things like the acceptable uses of your information and the prohibiting of falsifying any information submitted to the site. Please see our Terms of Use for additional details.
Also, Applicant Tree believes that by charging someone a fee, it encourages honesty in the best way. We think that the fees we charge employers, while fair, are high enough to deter attempts at shady practices by our site's users.
Employers
How much will I pay per résumé?
It all depends on the skill level and experience you need someone to have to fill your open position. Do you need a veteran in the Information Technology industry with three degrees and 10 years of experience? You'll pay more for that person's contact information than you would if you're filling an entry-level administrative assistant position.
Our résumé price formula is based on multiple criteria including the applicant's education, experience and his or her current salary level.
How do I know these people didn't lie on their résumés?
Though it's against our Terms of Service, Applicant Tree knows that sometimes people will lie on their résumés. We do out best to identify these applicants through our screening process, but we know that some will slip through the cracks.
If you feel you've purchased a résumé that has false or misleading information, contact your account executive and we'll work to resolve the issue. For additional details, please see our Terms of Use.
Does the $5 Applicant Tree referral reward mean that I pay $5 more for that person's full résumé?
That fee will come out of Applicant Tree's profits, not your pocket.
The reason we created that reward is because we are always really impressed by people who think to share stories about positive customer service experiences, instead of only yelling from the high hills when something terrible has happened.
Our company exists to reward job seekers for putting their information out there. We don't penalize employers for our incentive decisions.
