The status quo


About The recruitment industry was, for a time, a great idea. Recruiters would assist companies in finding new employees by lifting the burden off of the company’s shoulders. Productivity would no longer suffer due to the strain of replacing a valued employee. Recruiters would also perform this task much more cost effectively than the traditional method.


Somewhere along the line, the very people that the recruitment industry sought to aid got left behind. Small businesses could not afford the expense of recruiters nor could they afford the cost of the popular Internet job boards. The job seekers, the very people being bought and sold by recruiters every day, were becoming increasingly frustrated with the process that demanded more and more of their time – time for which they were not being compensated.



Time for a Change


AboutCompany President Jen Cooper was inspired to start Applicant Tree after watching her fellow troops in Iraq struggle to secure employment back home for when they were discharged.


She saw dozens of troops spending their limited Internet time scouring job boards to send out their résumés to multiple companies, many of whom never replied. Meanwhile, the major job Web sites were making millions trading hard-working people to employers like baseball cards. She also realized employers pay a flat rate to be inundated with information they don’t need, from people they don’t really want to hire, and the worthy job applicants didn’t see a dime. Jen thought this was unfair.


"Since most employers prefer quality employees, why not transform the process so they are only paying to contact the candidates who best fit their open positions?"


" Why not reward the job seekers with part of the finder’s fee for putting their information out there in the first place?"


It seemed like a win-win to Jen. To make her idea a reality, she pitched it to Internet Marketing Experts who immediately helped her get the attention and backing of Venture Capitalists, and the Applicant Tree was planted.
